Milk Brag – January 3, 2015

One morning's milking at Day 274

One morning’s milking at Day 274

Okay, I must brag; that’s what goat mommas do! This morning, on the 274th day after having her second set of triplets, Summer gave me 28 ounces of milk – that is 3/4 of a quart!

Tough decision, once again

It is really difficult to decide which babies to keep and which to sell to a new home. I’ve seen each one enter this world, watched them grow and worried over them so it is more than “just selling livestock.” More

Capri’s babies – May 19, 2014

Capri’s time was getting very close so the afternoon of Friday, May 18th, so I put her in the kidding pen.  Poor thing was huge.  I had decided if she had her babies on the 18th, I would find good volcano names for them, hoping at least one would be a doeling to be named Helen.  Because of all the trouble she had last year, I decided to spend the night in her stall since she had her babies late at night the past two years. Is your goat okay?

So my two does don’t kid near the same time next spring (they were just a day apart this year), the plan is for them to have a month or two between birthings.  I chose to have Summer bred first this time so Capri would need to wait.  Capri’s hormones, however, were not cooperative.  She can get quite vocal when she wants to go visiting.  More

And the barn . . .

When my girls first came here, their shelter was on the attached, covered, enclosed patio. It was quite handy just off the garage, so easy to step outside the kitchen door through the corner of the garage and there they were.  More

Tragedies along with joy

Based on Ginger’s birth date last year, Capri was four days overdue on Friday, April 4th.  She went into labor during the evening, but things were not going as expected.  More

Summer’s first babies with video

Yesterday, Saturday, was a day of heartbreak with Capri’s babies.  I was glad it was a few days until Summer’s babies were due; I really needed to recharge.  As it turns out, Mother Nature had other plans. More
