Okay, I must brag; that’s what goat mommas do! This morning, on the 274th day after having her second set of triplets, Summer gave me 28 ounces of milk – that is 3/4 of a quart!
Her milk was tested at 8.98 percent butterfat at Day 217 – that is very good. Likely, only a dairy goat owner will understand so for everyone else, this is extremely good for a second freshener (the second year for kidding/milking) – or any tiny goat for that matter. Nigerian Dwarf goats are represented to give up to a quart a day with some from good milking lines giving considerably more. This is quite good considering I did not milk her until her babies left at four months after kidding, and I am just now, in this third year (and her second year), becoming comfortable with my ability to milk.
