At midnight, Friday, April 4, 2013, Capri finally gave birth to Princess, her first baby this year. It was a long labor and difficult delivery. This precious bundle was the first kid born here under my herd name, VanEden.
Sadly, she would die at ten days of age from a liver infection caused by a bacteria introduced through her umbilical cord at birth. As one of my goat mentors said in her book, “With life comes death.” Sadly, that is true. However, we are never prepared for something that seems so unfair. This precious little girl should have had a rich and full life. Instead, she is buried under the apple tree that Mark and I planted. That tree is a grandchild of The Old Apple Tree at Fort Vancouver and moved here from my previous house where it was originally planted.
A separate post about the birth of the three boys is here: https://vanedengoats.wordpress.com/2013/04/09/tragedies-along-with-joy/
